A little about me:

My name is Catherine Janson. I like animals, the outdoors and cookie dough ice cream. I've been playing the French horn since fifth grade and have been obsessed ever since. I've travelled all over the country (and a little around the globe) to learn different methods, techniques and mental approaches to music and the French horn.

Mendocino Pic.jpgBorn and raised in New Jersey, I started my music education with a New York City influence, where I grew accustomed to the competitive nature of performance and fell in love with classical music by attending monthly Philharmonic concerts with my dad. I sought out new perspectives at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where I developed a sense of musicality and learned the importance and responsibility of the individual within an ensemble setting. For a well-rounded education, I made my way to Southern Methodist University. There, I discovered new technical approaches to the horn as well as mental approaches to practicing and performing that allowed me to excel as a performer.

IMG_E2430.JPGI'm so happy to be teaching in the DFW area. I find real joy in sharing my knowledge with future performers and creating music every day in lessons! My experiences in New York, Pittsburgh and Dallas allow me to approach lessons with different perspectives and expectations compared to other Dallas based instructors. I emphasize musicianship, efficient and comfortable technique, and mental positivity in my lessons. All students are welcome and accepted, and there is never any judgment in my studio. We are all learning at our own paces, and making beautiful music together as a team!
